What Happens After an Arrest in Polk County

  1. Booking in Winter Haven. The person is processed at the Sheriff’s Processing Center no matter where in Polk County they were arrested: Lakeland, Winter Haven, Haines City or Bartow.
  2. Bond or first appearance. If a bond is set at booking, they can be bonded out right away. If not, they see a judge at first appearance.
  3. Housing. People who are not released are moved to the Central County Jail in Bartow or the South County Jail in Frostproof.
  4. Release in Bartow. The Sheriff’s Office lists the Sheriff’s Releasing Center, directly behind the Central County Jail, as the place where inmates are released. If your loved one is held at the South County Jail in Frostproof, call us and we’ll confirm where to pick them up.

PCSO charges a $30 book-in fee, a $9 hygiene kit fee and $2 per day in custody.

Polk County Jail Inquiry (Inmate Search)

Use the Sheriff’s official Jail Information Search. You can search three ways:

  • Name Search, with a “current inmates only” option
  • Booking Date, by year
  • AKA Search, for nicknames or other names

Results are capped at the first 1,000 matches, so add a first name to narrow the list. Write down the booking number, each charge and the bond amount. For updates by phone, call the inmate information line at (863) 292-3400. You can also sign up for VINE release alerts from the same page.

First Appearance in Polk County

Both the Central County Jail and the South County Jail have a courtroom for first appearance hearings. Family members can watch from the jail lobby or through the Tenth Circuit’s virtual courtroom. The Tenth Judicial Circuit streams Polk first appearance as a virtual courtroom on Microsoft Teams, with audio at +1 863-225-4022 (conference ID 896 979 379#). Weekends and holidays use the same link. On weekends and holidays, first appearance hearings are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. in Courtroom 8E of the Polk County Courthouse in Bartow. For weekday hearing times, call us and we’ll check the schedule.

At first appearance the judge can set, change or deny bond, or release the person on their own recognizance. We prepare the paperwork before the hearing so the bond can be posted as soon as it is set.
